Ioana Suvaina (NYU): Symplectic surgeries and their applications
Abstract:
We recall two classical surgical techniques: normal connected sum and
rational blow-down, used to construct new symplectic 4-manifolds. In
some cases, these constructions have an algebraic geometry
correspondent. We describe their analogue and give some relevant
examples.
