Urs Frauenfelder (Munich):   Symmetry breaking for S1-invariant Morse functions

Abstract:

This is joint work with Kai Cieliebak. We pose the problem to define S1-equivariant Morse homology for non invariant metrics. The main focus of the talk will be the motivation for this problem coming from a different approach to the Arnold conjecture using a Lagrange multiplier action functional. We then present a partial answer to this problem.

Urs Frauenfelder (Munich):   Symmetries arising in the Arnold-Givental conjecture

Abstract:

The Arnold-Givental conjecture asks for a lower bound in topological datas on the number of intersection points for two transversally intersecting, Hamiltonian isotopic Lagrangians which are fixed point sets of an antisymplectic involution. This conjecture should follow from a very special symmetry on the space of paths from one Lagrangian to the other. We explain this symmetry.
