8:40-9:15  Opening Remarks from the Organizers
  Colloquium by Larry Guth, Professor of Mathematics
9:30-10:30  Period 1
10:45-11:45  Period 2
12:00-2:20  Period 3 + Lunch
2:20-3:20  Period 4
3:35-4:35  Period 5
4:35-5:00  Cookies & Surveys

We ask that all cSplash participants arrive between 8:00-8:30am to check in. Please note that you must be pre-registered to check in. There may or may not be onsite registration, depending on whether we have reached capacity - check our front page for updates.

Period 3 will be split into 2 groups: A and B. The class times and lunch times for the groups will be staggered as follows:

  A: 12:00-1:00 (class), 1:00-2:20 (lunch)
  B: 11:45-1:05 (lunch), 1:05-2:05 (class)

(We won't know until just before the day itself which classes from Block 3 are in group A and which are in group B.)

What to Bring

  • Photo ID
  • Pencils, paper (optional - these will be provided)
  • $10 for tshirt (optional - see below)
  • Quarters for phone calls (just in case... do payphones still exist?)
  • and Brain space (lots)!

Class Planning/Lounge

We strongly encourage you NOT to take classes in every block. Why? because you will in fact learn more if you take fewer classes, but have time to think about them and talk about them with other students. Also, your brain needs to relax just like any other muscle!

We have a lounge on the 13th floor where students can hang out during free blocks in their schedules. There will be tables for working, teachers who can help to answer any math- or science-related questions, and there will also be games and organized activities. We will post a schedule of activities as soon as we have it. Some of the activities that were organized last year include:

  • Mingling with Professors, Grad Students, and Undergrads (ask them anything!)
  • Math Arts and Crafts
  • Experiments and Demonstrations
  • Juggling
  • Edible Engineering (marshmallow and gumdrop models)
  • Math Comics
  • Board Games
  • Brainteasers
  • SNACKS
Official schedules for the lounge will be out soon! Come join us in the lounge and get to know your fellow cSplash participants.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided to all cSplash students and cSplash teachers. There will be a mixture of vegetarian and non-vegetarian lunches. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate other dietary preferences, but there are lots of cheap eateries in the neighbourhood and we are happy to recommend and/or accompany students to a place if you let us know in advance. T-Shirts

We have official cSplash 2013 tshirts! They will be sold for $10 each (cash only) on the day of csplash. There are a limited quantity so come early to make sure you get one.

Parents

We strongly discourage parents from accompanying their children at cSplash after they have dropped them off in the morning. If you are travelling from far away, here is a list of recommended places to visit in the neighborhood. (If your child has a disability or other special circumstances that require them to be accompanied, please let us know and we can make an exception.)

Special Circumstances

Please let us know in advance if there are any special circumstances, medical or other, that will help us in our planning. (This will not affect your ability to participate in any way, we just want to know!)

Safety

cSplash presupposes its participants to be mature, responsible individuals, capable of looking after themselves throughout the day. However, in order to help us keep track of participants, we ask that all cSplash students sign in and out when they leave and enter the building. This is simple; all it means is you need to tell us where you are going and if/when you are coming back.
