Graduate Student/Postdoc Seminar
Department of Mathematics
Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences
New York University
251 Mercer St.
New York, NY 10012
Time and Place
Fridays at 1:00pm - 2:00pm. Warren Weaver Hall 1302
There will be tea and cookies beforehand at 12:45.
Purpose
This seminar is meant to benefit young mathematicians, particularly grad students and postdocs.
It aims to accomplish the following:
- provide a venue for talks that young mathematicians will understand
- expose students to areas of research at
Courant
- help students learn to give good talks in front of a supportive audience
- help students share knowledge and build a community
The talks will be by grad students, postdocs, or faculty.
The talks should be fairly introductory research talks which are accessible to students and non-specialists in the audience.
In order to encourage more
grad students to speak, we would also like to offer the possibility of giving
a 20-minute, "conference-style" talk. We hope that the seminar series will be a
mixture of full-length talks and half-length talks (in pairs).
