Abstract: Hilbert's 17th problem asked if every non-negative polynomial of several real variables is the sum of squares of rational functions. This was answered affirmatively by E. Artin. We will formulate and present a complete solution to an analogous question for Hermitian polynomials, posed about 10 years ago by J. D'Angelo.
